Ballroom Dancing Days Written 6 months ago Mama Jen was a competitive ballroom dancer during the later part of her life. I know almost nothing about this time, but she looks very elegant and happy in the few photos I have. If someone out there has more to add the story please do so!

My mother, jenny to her friends in hammond, was very active in the altar guild at grace episcopal church. she was equally enthusiastic member of dar (daughters of the american revolution), and garden club. i hope someone remembers its name. these were her interests and activities during life in hammond before daddy died. her ballroom dancing phase began in her mid fifties. remember, she was only 50 when she lost her husband. she continued by creating a whole new life as a librarian at southeastern and an award-winning ballroom dancer. her friends, artemis husser and kathleen mcalister, were attending dance lessons at the fred astaire studio in new orleans. mother always loved to dance so she joined them. her instructor, eddie bourquois, became her partner in competitions and a very close friend.
